Project summary:

The Portland Battery site was built in the 1880s to prevent invasion by the Russians. The $30,000 grant enabled an engineering report to be conducted, including geotechnical investigation to determine the extent of damage caused by water ingress.

These investigations were a necessary first step to guide urgent conservation works, and the completion of identified works will allow the site to be reopened to the public.
