Project summary:
A grant of $70,000 was awarded on a matched funds basis which allowed urgent conservation works to the corroded ‘Silver Ball’ water tower and roof repairs to the adjacent Quonset Hut, Round Room and main office building.
The Silver Ball is a popular Warrnambool landmark, and the funding has complemented community initiatives that celebrate the treasured Australian brand and the history of this significant heritage place. The completion of the conservation works was marked with a community celebration attended by 600 people, and the ball is now lit up each night from 9pm-12midnight.
The grant recipient reports:
“The excitement created during the Silver Ball makeover once again reinforced our community connection and bonds as people posted images and then came together to mark the renewal of the Silver Ball at the Light Up event help in the gardens on 20 December 2017.”
