Project summary:
Box Hill Cemetery Trust were able to undertake urgent structural and internal repairs to the Box Hill Cemetery Columbarium with a grant of $200,000. The columbarium was at structurally at risk and was closed to the public owing to safety concerns.
Built in 1929, it is a prominent building in the cemetery landscape. As a final resting place and a place of peaceful reflection, it is an important representation of the cultural practice of honouring and remembering the dead.
The cemetery is open daily, and the grant has allowed the first stage to reopening the columbarium to the public.
