Project summary:
Balmoral & District Historical Society were able to undertake vital conservation works to the roof, rainwater goods, and timber elements of the Balmoral Courthouse with a grant of $50,000.
The rare timber courthouse was designed by Alfred T Snow and built by the Public Works Department in 1876. It is one of only three surviving timber court houses of its type in the state.
Today, the former court house is used as a community space managed by the Historical Society. The grant has addressed safety concerns and enabled the building to reopen, providing a local venue for exhibitions, meetings and education.
