The Sustainable Built Environment Programme aims to reduce the environmental impacts of the built environment through development of tools, strategies, advisory services and professional development courses. It addresses a range of environmental issues from energy efficiency and water conservation through to environmentally preferable materials and waste avoidance during construction.

Burra Charter
The Burra Charter defines the basic principles and procedures to be followed in the conservation of Australian heritage places.
Seven basic tenets of the Burra Charter:-
1. The place is important.
2. Understand the significance of the place.
3. Understand the fabric.
4. Significance should guide decisions.
5. Do as much as possible and as little as necessary.
6. Keep records.
7. Do everything in a logical order.

Brundtland Commission
The Brundtland Commission, formally the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), known by the name of its Chair Gro Harlem Brundtland, was convened by the United Nations in 1983. The commission was created to address growing concern "about the accelerating deterioration of the human environment and natural resources and the consequences of that deterioration for economic and social development."
